Glorifying celebrities.

I’m just starting to realize the affect of following celebrities so closely had on me.

I think this whole, needing to have a celebrity role model, is completely unnecessary. I don’t think we need to look up to celebrities at all. Since we never get to see the real them we are given false information and we fall victim to the image that we make them to be in our heads. That’s not real. The people we imagine them to be are not real. Go learn from your best friend, your boss, your father, grandfather, mother, grandmother, relative, or cousin. Any of those people are real people with real feelings and real emotions. They will teach you more about life than anything you will ever see on social media.

I’m realizing that my view on life is flawed. See, I joined social media at the young age of 12. Right when Facebook was starting to get popular. But that’s not the only thing. I’ve been watching movies and tv shows since I was born. My whole world view has been based off of what I’ve watched on the media my whole life. I’m sure many others share this view also. The behaviours we observe or on TV are not always natural.

Social media is starting to get too close and personal to celebs. I watch basketball because I like the game. I don’t need to know what an athlete is doing at all times if the day. I follow a band because I like their music, I don’t need to see what they are doing at all times of the day.

Lets talk about Astroworld for a bit. First of all my thoughts go out to the people who lost their lives. It truly is a tragedy and no one deserves to die like that. However, these people are so obsessed with Travis Scott that they would put themselves in a crowd like that. There’s a reason why I prefer sitting in the nosebleed sections at concerts. I’m there to listen to their music. I don’t need to do drugs, get drunk and scream as loud as I can while jumping up and down all night. That does not interest me at all. Maybe that makes me boring. That’s my choice I guess. I just think that we become so obsessed with these celebrities that we almost become brainwashed and forget to think logically. I mean some of these celebrities are complete assholes, for a lack of better words. They don’t care about you. They just want your money. Some are good and just enjoy playing music but that’s a rarity these days. It’s all about the fame and you’re helping them get there.

Instagram has made these celebrities feel like they are part of our lives. Like they are our friends. It has its positives. It’s a great way to spread messages. It’s a great way to connect with the community if you do it properly. It can be positive and used as a tool. However, I think at this point social media brings more negatives than positives.

Right now I only follow family and friends on social media and I only check kn once a day. I follow writers on medium that I enjoy, not necessarily the most popular ones. I follow artists on Spotify I like, not the popular ones and I don’t keep up with what they are doing in their personal lives. I do not care. I watch sports, watch highlights of athletes I enjoy watching on YouTube. That’s it, I also don’t care about their personal lives. I don’t need that added to my life.

At the end of the day I have my own issues and my personal life to worry about. I don’t need to worry about the problems a celebrity is dealing with. I watch sports to unwind and not worry about my problems. I don’t need to add more problems to my life. I don’t need their problems. All I’m saying is let’s watch athletes play sports, watch actors and actresses in movies, listen to artists music, and but let’s not get too attached to them personally. It’s not healthy.
